Handrails in accordance with DIN 18065 and legal requirements
When planning and installing handrails, the requirements of DIN 18065 and the applicable building regulations must be observed. This standard regulates, among other things
- Mandatory from 3 steps: every staircase with at least three steps must have a handrail.
- Height: between 80 cm and 115 cm above the front edge of the step.
- Distance from the wall: at least 5 cm to ensure a safe grip.
- Diameter: 3 - 4.5 cm, in publicly accessible areas only round or oval.
- Handrails on both sides: required from a step width of 1.5 m, intermediate handrail mandatory from 4 m.
- Shape & design: stable, without yielding, continuous across landings and stair nosings.
